Lesson 7 introduces the 3D system in Nuke using it to build a "Tile World". You will learn about how to remove lens distortion from images and set up Tile Worlds. Tile Worlds and Panoramas are one of my favorite VFX tricks. They are the spiritual descendant of the classic "glass matte" matte painting but so much more powerful. You can greatly increase your production values using these tricks! Watch the videos and decide if you want to get the project files so you can do the practice exercise.

The course notes PDF has some info not covered in the videos as well as tips and a written description of the assignment for this lesson. In the PDF for each lesson I also recommend the chapters you should read to stay in sync with the course. The reading will give you more of a deep dive into the fine points of the technical side of compositing than is possible in the videos. The course was designed with the assumption it would be used by serious students who would be doing the reading. If you are serious about advancing as a compositor professionally I strongly recommend you do the suggested reading. Speaking from my own experience and the experience of many student journeys I have witnessed I can say with a high level of confidence that getting a handle on the fine points of compositing at a technical level will help you advance more quickly. The best time to do this study is when you are working on relevant projects. It helps reinforce the concepts presented in the books by connecting them to real-world problem solving in the project.

The project file is a simple Nuke template and images so you can follow along on the assignment. In Lesson 6 you will pull a key and composite a moving green screen foreground plate to a photographic background plate.

Did you know you can get a non-commercial version of Nuke absolutely FREE! Stop monkeying around with weaker software and start learning how the pros get composites done... In floating point, with node based interfaces. It's no harder to learn than any other program and it will pay HUGE dividends in your productivity level and the quality of shots you will be able to create. I would argue it's actually easier to learn Nuke than it is to learn many other programs as the paradigm and interface is much more internally consistent than most programs.
